Once a part of Rhyanne, the Emerlas is a stark and majestic region that forms the northernmost edge of Harak, a land of wind-swept plateaus, jagged ridges, and ancient stone. It is a place where the terrain itself defies cultivation, where the soil is thin and rocky, and where the wind carries the chill of distant mountains. Unlike the fertile southern realms or the wooded lands of Rhyanne, Harak is a kingdom of open highlands and harsh beauty. The Spiderwood, a dark and twisted forest near Krandell Keep, is the only true woodland in the entire realm, although the Emerlas backs the Sylva`Arbael of Rhyanne.
The Emerlas is a land of legend and danger. Its hills are bare but not empty. Crumbling ruins dot the landscape, remnants of forgotten watchtowers, ancient cairns, and the shattered bones of civilizations long past. The Dragon’s Teeth Mountains dominate the northern horizon, their jagged peaks rising like the fangs of some slumbering beast. These mountains are treacherous and largely unexplored, rumored to conceal lost strongholds, hidden tombs, and ancient powers best left undisturbed.
Between the keep and the mountains lie the Mines of Quasqueton, now sealed and haunted. Once owned by two legendary adventurers, they are said to contain arcane secrets and powerful relics, but few who enter return, and those who do speak of shifting corridors and unnatural whispers. It is rumoured that there are secret tunnels that lead throughout the Emerlas that originate from the Mines.
To the northeast, the Spiderwood clings to the rocky slopes like a wound upon the land. Once a sacred grove of the Rhyanne druids, it is now a place of corruption and dread, ruled by the demon Vraxxith the Spinner and haunted by monstrous spiders and twisted fey. Its gnarled trees and choking webs are a stark contrast to the otherwise barren landscape of Harak.
To the northeast, the Shy Tower is an elusive, sentient structure believed to be a remnant of the First Elven Kingdom. It appears only to those with noble intent or desperate need. The tower is slender, silver, and radiant, rising from the land as an ethereal presence, hidden in the mist-shrouded hills. Once a part of a larger network of Elven constructs, the tower is thought to be sentient, holding ancient arcane wisdom and prophecies. It has ties to both Harak and Rhyanne, and its appearance marks pivotal moments in the Krandell bloodline's fate. Those who enter speak of visions, riddles, and cryptic prophecies, some hopeful, others dark and foreboding. The tower is said to reveal glimpses of the future, often focusing on the Krandell line and the borderlands. Its mysterious riddles hint at both doom and hope for the kingdom, especially regarding the future ruler of Harak. The tower is both a guide and a test, offering knowledge and warnings to those who approach. It stands as a timeless sentinel, waiting for those whose destiny it will shape. The Shy Tower remains a focal point for the future of Harak, influencing the fate of the Krandell bloodline and the balance of power in the region.
The people of the Emerlas, scattered frontier folk, Rhyanne emissaries, and the soldiers of Krandell Keep, live in growing unease. The roads are no longer safe. Strange lights flicker in the hills. Old trails vanish overnight. And the silence of the land feels heavier with each passing season.
Yet the Emerlas is not without defenders. Adventurers still come, drawn by duty, curiosity, or the promise of glory. The land is harsh, but it is also ancient and full of mystery. For those who would brave its depths, the Emerlas offers both peril and purpose. It is a place where legends are born, and where many are buried.
