Duchy of Eavermysst

Before it vanished into the mists with the Kingdom of Lorien, Eavermysst stood as one of the most enigmatic and enchanting duchies in all of Elvendom. Cloaked in mist and mystery, it was often called The Veiled Court or The Hidden Vale. A land of eternal twilight and shimmering fog, it bordered the outer edges of Lorien, brushing the raw edges of the world where the veil between planes thinned and magic ran wild.

Eavermysst was founded during the First Partitioning, when King Endar divided the elven people in accordance with his divine vision. Assigned to Lorien, Eavermysst became home to many of the Moon Elves, Grey Elves, and Starborn Houses who preferred isolation, quiet beauty, and deep contemplation. The duchy's lands were a convergence of old forest, silver marshes, and crystalline hills. Fey energies infused the very soil.

The ruling line of Eavermysst, the House Vaelthirien, traced its lineage back to Anarys Starwing, a daughter of Alestria Tirandiel herself. House Vaelthirien bore the Star-Warded Sigil, claiming both ancient blood and divine mandate. They were not warriors first, but lorekeepers, dream-singers, and masters of subtle magics. Their court, known as the Court of Silver Leaves, was held not in stone halls, but in a sprawling living canopy of moonlit trees and whispering vines, grown by magic and song.

Long before Lorien vanished, Eavermysst had already begun to retreat, spiritually and metaphysically, from the wider world. The mists that gave the land its name were not natural fogs, but magical shrouds called forth by generations of Moon Priests and Veilcasters. These mists not only protected Eavermysst from intrusion, but also slowed time itself, creating a land where centuries passed like decades.

Only those invited, or of elven blood attuned to the Vale, could navigate its shifting paths. Travelers often found themselves lost, wandering in circles or simply deposited back at the edges of the duchy, unable to recall how far they had gone. These enchantments would later become the model for Lorien's own vanishing into the mists.

Though small compared to other duchies, Eavermysst was a cradle of high elven culture. The greatest crystal luthiers, spell-song composers, memory-weavers, and veil-dancers all hailed from its glades. The Gleaming Archive of Alarion, hidden within the living heart of the Shimmering Grove, contained countless volumes of elven magic, prophecy, and dream-lore.

Here, the Art of Moonsteel was perfected, an alloy of mithril, star-silver, and dream-infused ice, which could cut shadow and shimmer with moonlight. The finest Moonsteel blades were not forged but sung into being. Disappearance with Lorien

When Queen Jeraillae Elessedil ordered the Great Withdrawal of Lorien, Eavermysst was the first to vanish. Its mists deepened until even other elves of Lorien could not find the Duchy's paths. Some claimed they heard singing from within the fog. Others said a pale blue light pulsed for nights on end from Eavermysst's direction before the land fell completely silent.

Unlike other duchies that were simply relocated or faded gradually, Eavermysst vanished entirely, disappearing from both Otara and planar charts, removed from even magical sight. It is believed that the duchy's Veilcasters and Starborn Magi assisted in the cloaking of the entire kingdom. Some sages suggest Eavermysst was the key to Lorien's disappearance. Return from the Mists

When Lorien reappeared after the unraveling of Atlan`ysse's binding magics, Eavermysst returned as well, its towers and trees unchanged by the passage of centuries. Its mists still wreath the land, but now they part for emissaries of Arethane and allies of the united elven kingdoms.

The return has brought both wonder and unease. The people of Eavermysst are calm and graceful, but somehow… changed. They remember the time in the mists as if in dream. Some speak of starless skies and vast silence. Others whisper of voices in the veil that taught them new magic.

Though they have rejoined the world, the elves of Eavermysst walk on the edge of two realities. Some scholars worry that Eavermysst may vanish again, of its own volition, if the world grows too harsh, or if the Finale comes too soon. Modern Role and Purpose

Today, Duchess Aelarienne Vaelthirien, a direct descendant of Anarys, rules Eavermysst from the Moonhall Canopy. Her voice is rarely heard in public, and she speaks in riddles when she does. Yet none question her rule, her eyes are stars, and her presence quiets storms.

Eavermysst now serves as the last veil of the elven people, a mystical outpost that guards the secrets of the Arcanum, trains new veilcasters and moon-priests, and prepares quietly for the Final War. The Phoenix Guard rarely enters its bounds; they say the mists themselves refuse their step unless summoned.

It is whispered that when the Seven rise, Eavermysst will burn its mists away, revealing its full power and unleashing its ancient magics upon the darkness.

Until then, it waits, wrapped in mist, memory, and moonlight.
