Aevermaeth is a realm of deep mist-forests, shadow-dappled meadows, and twilight glades where the sun rarely shines clearly but always glows gently through the fog. Aevermaeth is a land of mystery, introspection, and vision, where dreams and omens are treated as seriously as law. The forests are ancient, even though they sprang forth only upon the Elves' arrival to Otara. Shrouded in soft fog, the trees of Aevermaeth grow tall and strange, with silvered bark, whispering leaves, and bioluminescent moss that pulses in rhythm with the Weave. Aetherlight often dances in the distance, and birdsong echoes faintly even when no bird is seen.
Before the divine transference, Aevermaeth was a kingdom of seers and oracles in the desert called Qha'tel Aruun, "the Hollow Silence." It was a lifeless, bone-dry land where stars offered no warmth and the wind carried no sound. The Elves of Aevermaeth were contemplatives and watchers, they waited, listened, and walked the dream-paths when speech and reason failed. Where others tried to reshape their world, the Aevermaethi endured it in stillness, trusting that the pattern of things would one day be revealed.
When the final war in Eashavar broke the last ley lines and the skies themselves began to burn, the Aevermaethi joined the cry for salvation. Their prayers, though soft, reached Thoth, who saw in them the guardians of dreams yet unborn. Thoth, Lord of Knowledge and Keeper of Balance, and Ra, recognized the Elves of Aevermaeth as vital, not for what they had done, but for what they might yet remember. They lifted their shattered land from the brink of dissolution and transported it across the veil into Otara, where the Elves would be given a new home and a deeper purpose.
Upon their arrival in Otara, Aevermaeth's desert was reborn not as a golden land of fire or light, but as a forest shrouded in sacred mist. The sands were swallowed by loam, and strange trees grew where none had ever taken root. Mists rolled in from nowhere, carrying fragments of memory, half-forgotten dreams, and distant voices. It is said that Ra breathed into the wind, and Thoth cast his gaze into the roots, binding past and future beneath the soil. The people of Aevermaeth awoke from their long silence into a world of depth, shadow, and possibility.
Aevermaeth is ruled by the Circle of the Veil, a loose body of dream-readers, forest witches, twilight philosophers, and path-finders known as the Miraelan. Their Leader is called the Pharoah and their society is woven around the pursuit of vision through stillness, they do not worship the stars, but the patterns hidden between them. Prophecy, memory, and the unseen forces of fate are studied through trance, meditation, and dreamwork. Music is sparse and haunting. Art is carved into living trees, shaped from fog-bound bonewood, or woven into the motion of wind-chimes left in hidden glades. The Aevermaethi do not seek truth, they believe truth comes only to those patient enough to hear it whispered through the mists.
Aevermaeth honors Ra, asn Thoth as the Holders of the Secret Pattern, though their names are spoken rarely and only in rituals of deep memory.
Other gods are acknowledged, but Aevermaeth has no shrines in the traditional sense. Their sacred sites are veil-pools, fog-paths, and rootsprings, where the mist is thickest and time feels fragile. Their priests, the Mistbound, are chosen by prophetic dream, not birthright.
Though isolated and often considered strange by other Elven realms, Aevermaeth remains loyal to Arethane under divine mandate. Their contributions to the vassal compact are primarily visionary guidance, prophetic insight, and mystical research into the deeper flows of Otara's Weave. Their dream-walkers sometimes deliver omens to the Crown of Arethane, and their forest-paths serve as conduits for quiet diplomacy or secret retreat. Few armies march from Aevermaeth, but when danger threatens, their Veil-Wardens emerge from the mists to fight with illusions, memory-magic, and spectral cunning.
