Alaric Ilkwaer carries himself with a quiet dignity, his silver hair neatly tied back, and his deep blue eyes reflecting both wisdom and sorrow. His finely embroidered scholar's robes are adorned with subtle lunar motifs, honoring his house's connection to knowledge and the moon's guiding light. Though lean and refined, there is a weariness to his features—etched by tragedy and tempered by resilience.
Once a noble scholar of a great Elven house, Alaric is now a man burdened by the past. His keen intellect and meticulous nature make him an exceptional scribe, yet his work is more than just a profession—it is a duty. He believes that history, if not recorded, is doomed to be forgotten, just as his house nearly was. Alaric is reserved but not cold, holding a deep respect for tradition, honor, and the written word. While he rarely speaks of his past, those who know him well understand that beneath his composed exterior lies a grief that has never fully healed.
House Ilkwaer was once a noble lineage of scholars, scribes, and historians, entrusted with preserving the vast knowledge of Elvenkind. Their ancestral home in Rhyanne housed the legendary Luminous Archive, a collection of Elven lore dating back millennia. However, their legacy came to a brutal end when Human soldiers from Harak razed their estate during the dark years leading up to the Grand Retreat.
Alaric, then a young diplomat and historian, was away on official duties when the massacre occurred. He returned to find his home in flames, his family slain, and centuries of wisdom lost. The last of House Ilkwaer, he had no choice but to flee with the remnants of his people to Jordaine, carrying only what few records and artifacts he could salvage.
In the years since, Alaric has dedicated himself to rebuilding what was lost. Establishing The Quill and Scroll Scriptorium in Newhaven, he has become the town's official scribe, chronicling deeds, drafting legal documents, and ensuring the records of this new era are properly preserved. Though his noble title holds little weight now, he upholds the traditions of his house, hoping that one day, the Ilkwaer name may rise again.
Alaric is a Master Scribe, his calligraphy is flawless, and his ability to transcribe, draft, and archive documents is unparalleled. He is a linguist fluent in multiple languages, including Elven dialects, Human tongues, and ancient scripts, as well as a Historian, and is a walking repository of Elven history and lore, particularly from Rhyanne and the lost archives of House Ilkwaer. Though not a mage himself, he has studied Elven enchantments, especially those related to preservation and memory. He has a very Diplomatic Mind, trained for courtly negotiations, and understands the nuances of Elven and Human politics and etiquette.
He is the official Scribe of Newhaven and is responsible for recording deeds, contracts, and legal matters for the town. He is the proprietor of The Quill and Scroll Scriptorium and offers writing services, transcription, and education to the community, as well as acting as a Mentor & Teacher, he holds literacy workshops for young elves and those seeking to learn the art of writing. He is an Archivist of Lost Knowledge, secretly maintaining a growing collection of salvaged Elven texts from Rhyanne, attempting to rebuild what was lost.
Despite his refined demeanor, Alaric struggles with survivor's guilt, haunted by the fact that he alone escaped his family's fate. He often wonders if his work in Newhaven is truly enough or if he should seek justice for the crimes against his house. Though he has embraced his new life, the weight of the past never leaves him. He has few possessions from his old life but he holds onto the ones he has:
- The Ilkwaer Signet Ring – The only remaining artifact of his noble house, worn as a quiet reminder of his past.
- A Silver-Gilded Quill “ An enchanted quill passed down through generations of Ilkwaer scribes, rumored to never run dry of ink.
- The Last Ilkwaer Ledger “ A personal journal where he records the lost history of his family and their fallen house.
Still, Alaric Ilkwaer endures, preserving what knowledge he can, not just for himself, but for the future of all Elvenkind, and a desperate hope that someday he might return his house to it's former glory.
